Hello, my name is Natruell Smith, I am from New York City. I am a freshman hoping to become an engineering student at the Grove School of Engineering here at the City College of New York. I am currently taking writing for engineering, pre-calculus, speech, and creative expression courses because they are requirements for GSOE. In the future, I hope to become a cybersecurity analyst with my bachelor’s and master’s in engineering.
While in school I also work as a teaching assistant for Manhattan Youth and a backstock worker for a mens clothing store. I have a passion for coding and engineering because growing up I have never seen a black woman like myself working in the STEM industry. This motivates me to become an inspiration and role model for young women who look like me.
In the past, I attended a technology high school called, Hudson High of Learning Technologies, where I learned how to code using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. My coding classes were my favorite time of the day because I loved it and had fun doing it. It was then that I discovered that I could use my talent and make it into my future career, especially since I am good at math.
Besides being an educated individual I also like to swim, dance, paint, go to the gym, and do my hair, makeup, and nails. I like to travel with my friends and family, explore new environments, and take long walks on the beach.
